Social Media Editor Wanted

Critical Asian Studies invites applications for the position of contributing editor for social media, to begin in early 2019. We have modest funding to compensate a scholar to perform the following duties:

1.     Solicit content from scholars, practitioners, activists, and others for publication on the CAS webpage. This will include, but is not limited to,  commentaries, reflections, opinion pieces, field notes, and short reviews of books, podcasts, blogs, and other resources on Asia.

2.     Write occasional profiles about CAS authors, commentaries, or short information pieces.

3.     Coordinate with the journal editor on the content of web material.

We are seeking an active scholar with broad professional ties who will be able to solicit at least three publishable outside contributions of between 500 and 2,000 words per month  and contribute at least one short piece every two months.  Of utmost importance is that the successful candidate be able to generate contributions from all regions of Asia, broadly defined, as well as from a range of disciplines.

You do not need to be U.S.-based to apply. We particularly welcome applications from young scholars and adjuncts.

We estimate the time commitment will be approximately five hours per week.  No editorial experience is necessary and no editing of content is required. Compensation, in the form of a modest stipend to be paid  on a monthly basis,  will be up to US$5,000 per year with an initial commitment of one calendar year.

If you are interested in this position, please email the editor, Robert Shepherd, at editor.criticalasianstudies@gmail.com.
